The Lost Coin

This painting is of the Parable of the Lost Coin, where a woman loses 1 of her 10 coins and searches her house for it. This painting also contains a lot of symbolism because this parable is being painted in an Indian art style. The woman has Indian features and traditional Indian clothing. She wears minimal jewelry because she is not a divine entity, but her jewelry is still elaborate, which follows the traditional Kerala Mural Art practices and also references South Indian jewelry, which is intricate. It is important to paint parables like these in South Indian art styles because it helps South Indian people see themselves in the Bible and better relate to it. I also did something very rare in this painting by making an everyday individual the focus of this piece. Traditionally, ordinary, non-divine people only appear in the background of Kerala Mural Art, if at all. Additionally, I used sequins to represent the coins. This is not a practice in Kerala Mural Art, I just liked the sparkles. See if you can find the lost coin.
